For a while now, I’ve been an admirer of this dudes craft and when it comes down to it there’s just nothing like enjoying the passionate work of one’s fine craftsmanship such as DJ/ Producer, Nima Fadavi. So check out the below, as we’re lucky enough to have Nima in the Q&A “sit down” session we call, “Inside the Set”. So without further adue, here’s…

Inside the Set with Nima Fadavi

1. So Nima, tell us a little about yourself! Specifically where are you from, where do you live now & what got you into DJ’ing / Producing?

“I grew up in California in the Bay Area. From a young age I was always into music, I learned Piano at 6 years old, and Guitar shortly after. I was always into hip hop, so naturally with a musical background a grew into producing and making beats. I had a lot of friends that were DJing and I later picked up DJing also just naturally because it went hand in hand with producing.”

2. Having been involved with a variety of artists (such as Rey Resurreccion , Sincere, Los Rakas, etc.) what qualities / elements do you look for in a potential collaborator before dialing in on the production process?

“First and foremost I have to like their music. I really enjoy working with diverse artists that can really adapt to any sound, but most of all have a great attitude and be hard working. I hate working with artists that take too long to get things done and always lag. I have the best chemistry working with artists that are hard workers and ready to work anytime of the day or night. I’m a very hard worker and I’m really open to working with all artists that are ready to work too.”

3. You produced some amazing stuff for J Stalin’s track, “Hopscotch ” & when it comes to coming up with the initial rhythm for such sick beats. When does the creative drive normally “spark” first?

“Thank you. It really depends, I listen to a lot of music so it could always get sparked from other music I’m listening to at the time, but I get a lot of creativity from other things as well. Sometimes movies, weather, life situations, people around me, etc., the list can go on forever. It’s really how I’m feeling at that time and what kind of mood I’m in.”

4. Let’s say someone was chilling in your neck of the woods there in the Bay Area, and wanted to get good eats & catch a good live show / set. Where would you recommend?

“The Bay Area is such a big and diverse place that there’s so many good places to eat and watch live music. I’m big into sushi, so I’d definitely say Tako Sushi in Berkeley on Telegraph, or if you’re in the South Bay, Kyoto Palace (Japanese restaurant) in San Jose. For live music, 330 Ritch in San Francisco is a dope place to see live shows, and also The New Parish in Oakland. They’re both really intimate venues that still bring well known and established artists through, which makes for a great live show.”

5. You have certainly been a man on the hustle with the weekly DJ sets & all the continual production drops. What should everyone (in terms of current / upcoming releases) be on the lookout for so far for 2012?

“I’m working with a lot of great artists and have a lot of new music coming in 2012 that I produced for Andre Nickatina, Los Rakas, Sincere, Pep Love, Philthy Rich, Krypto, Rey Resurreccion, and a lot more.
